As part of my quest to define America’s Future, I’ve been studying a particular time period that I believe is helping me better understand how and why we arrived at today’s state of affairs.

Most people won’t be surprised to learn the period I’m referencing is the decade of the ’60s. I’m reading a variety of books about this time and each has provided me with a firm foundational understanding of this critical decade. (See my post regarding “America’s Future – Resources” to see a listing of these books as well as my recommendations for required reading.)

What I’m beginning to see is a convergence on the year 1965 as that point in time when America’s belief and trust in the potential of its government to bring about positive change within society peaked and began it’s long decline to the point we’re at today. I’m still researching what exactly happened but I’ve become increasingly convinced that 1965 was one of the, if not the, critical turning point!

As always, I look forward to your feedback!

  1. Now I’m curious. What facts are you referencing exactly? What happened in 1965? Why do you think the changes are a “decline”?

    • I’m still researching the causes of what I would describe as the decline of American liberalism. My premise is that this liberalism reached its height in 1965 and has been on a long, slow decline ever since even to this day. Through my research, I’m hoping to better understand why this happened and what can be done to both reinvigorate American liberalism as well as identify a vision for American’s future.
